The Best PC based DVR
Find out what we think is the best PC based DVR considering what we’ve found on the Internet so far. After a careful study of a number of reviews and articles here’s what we came up with:
Our contestants for today are the CM-7000PAL, the Neuros MPEG-4 Recorder 2 and the TiVo TCD746320 Premiere.
At first we were inclined towards the Channel Master 7000PAL since it has good quality, it can record on-the-air shows, fast forward and slow motion what you want and you can also schedule recordings for when you’re away from home. Not that the others can’t do this. What sets this apart is the nifty remote control unit that operates in a lot of different angles and can control up to 3 devices at once. Kind of makes you think about HDMI. This product scores a moderate price at 350$.
The Neuros Recorder 2 keeps things easy for you. If you’re not a mechanical person then you’ll really like this one. It also gets you mobile with your video. You can the stuff you record from your cable and take it with you on vacation. This is really handy if you often go on voyages. While it’s cheap, you should find it around 100$ the real downside is that it has no storage room. While the thing is cheap, storage space isn’t.
And last but not least the TiVo Premiere. We’ve talked about this one before and although it’s quite expensive, probably around 500$, it’s much better than the others. It still features the trademark TiVo function: multitasking. You can record up to 2 shows while already watching a third. It also has slow motion, fast forward and the like. And it also lets you put all your stuff on a laptop or iPod and take it with you wherever you go.
In conclusion, while at first we liked how the CM-7000PAL looked, ultimately we think the TiVo Premiere is far superior to the other two but the steep price might make you turn to one of the other two products we listed.
